Varsity Covers NCAA Midwest Regionals

ASHWAUBENON — If you like low-scoring, defensive hockey games with a little offense sprinkled in, the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin was the place to be on Saturday night.

Michigan’s Ferris State Bulldogs rode two third-period goals and rock-solid defense on its way to a 2-1 victory over Cornell in the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional hockey final on April 1, 2012.

Ferris (25-11-5) will play in the Frozen Four semifinals against No. 3-ranked Union (N.Y.) on April 5. Union (26-7-7) was a 4-2 winner over UMass-Lowell in the East Regional final. The Bulldogs are making their second appearance in the NCAA tournament and never had advanced to the Frozen Four before Saturday’s win.

Token Creek’s Varsity HD production truck was on hand for the two day, three game series. Steven Schmelling was the engineer-in-charge during the event.

The 37th Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Girls Basketball State Championships take place Thursday, March 22 through Saturday, March 24 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin. For the third consecutive year, Token Creek’s Hiawatha HD mobile unit is covering all the action.

The Tournament will be televised live on WKOW-TV channel 27 in Madison, WAOW-TV channel 9 in Wausau, WXOW-TV channel 19 in La Crosse, WQOW-TV channel 18 in Eau Claire, WYOW-TV channel 34 in Eagle River, WMOW-TV 4 in Crandon, WMLW-TV channel 41 in Milwaukee, KBJR-TV digital channel 6.2 in Duluth/Superior and WACY-TV channel 32 in Green Bay and the Fox Valley.

Token Creek has just returned from the four-day Minnesota High School Hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center and Mariucci Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. Varsity HD provided an unprecedented 16 cameras for the 14 game series - four games Wednesday, four games Thursday, four games Friday and two on Saturday. The Twin Cities station KSTC 45 was host to the statewide network. KSTC 45 producer Dennis Silva & director Patrick O’Conner were at the helm for the entire event.

77th Heisman Awards

Hiawatha is on its way back from New York for the 77th Annual Heisman Awards, presented by ESPN. Since 2007, Token Creek has had the honor of providing the production facilities for this prestigious event. ESPN presented the Awards in a sports special, broadcasting live from the Best Buy Theatre in Times Square.

Robert Griffin III of Baylor University was selected as the 2011 Most Outstanding College Football player. Griffin is Baylor University’s first Heisman Trophy winner. He is the 32nd quarterback to receive the award. The Heisman is the oldest award in college football.

Candles & Carols In High Def

Token Creek recently returned from Anderson University in Indiana for Covenant Productions’ “Candles & Carols” Christmas program. For the first time, the program was shot in High Definition. Eight cameras were used, each being ISO recorded on an AJA KiPRO deck using Token Creeks’s Hiawatha. Editing and production was completed by the students enrolled in communications classes at the university.

“Candles and Carols” is a holiday music program recorded and distributed by AU’s Covenant Productions®. It airs in December on more than 100 television stations. The program will also be shown internationally by the EWTN television network.

World Dairy Expo 2011

Token Creek’s new Chippewa SD truck has just finished the 2011 World Dairy Expo, providing seven cameras, 16×9 wide screen production, web streaming and YouTube archiving. The Expo was held October 4-8, 2011 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Over 65,000 dairy industry enthusiasts make the trip to World Dairy Expo, including attendees from the US, Canada, Mexico and 90 other countres. It is the international meeting place for the dairy industry and the showcase for elite dairy cattle, cutting edge research and modern technologies.

NFL pre season begins

Token Creek Mobile has been very busy with NFL pre-season football. Varsity will cover four games for the Carolina Panthers & one game for the Dallas Cowboys. Hiawatha is scheduled to cover all four of the preseason games for the Minnesota Vikings.

Hiawatha, Token Creek’s 53ft HD unit travelled to Denver for coverage of the WBC World Boxing Council’s super lightweight title match, pitting hometown favorite Mike Alvarado against Mexico’s Gabriel Martinez. Top Rank Boxing has worked with Token Creek before through Alliance Productions. The event aired live on Fox Sports Net.

Hiawatha Selected for Draft

While the Heat and Bulls battle for a spot in the NBA Finals across town, 55 prospects are fighting for spots in next monthhs draft at the NBA Combine at Tim Grover’s Attack Athletics Facility in Chicago. The ESPNU Combine telecast is the first to be produced in HD, and, although the event may not boast the popularity of its NFL counterpart, it is quickly becoming a key date on the NBA calendar. This is the last chance to see these guys in shorts and sneakers before the draft in June,, says coordinating producer Peter Watters. Itts a little different from the NFL Combine, which most viewers are used to. The NFL Combine is very segmented, with one guy going at once. But here, they will have as many as four hoops going during a single 12-man group.. The Combine, which is also being streamed on ESPN3.com and will be replayed on NBA TV, is a four-day marathon of drills, strength and conditioning workouts, tests, and team interviews, but no actual 5-on-5 scrimmages take place. ESPNU is providing four hours of coverage on Thursday (10 a.m.-2 p.m. ET) and six hours on Friday (10 a.m.-4 p.m.), when basketball drills are held. ESPNU has brought in Token Creek’s Hiawatha HD mobile unit and an Arctek HD satellite-uplink truck for its inaugural HD Combine telecast. Token Creek’s engineering staff consisted of Steve Sontag, Andrew Rothschadl, & Chris Smith.
